How far bacl in your insurance history can/does an insurance co. go when calculating your car insurance?

I am looking for affordable, general insurance coverage on my car, but seem to be getting conflicting amounts. I do not have the best history, but how far back can a new company go in order to calculate the premium amount?

Typically, insurance companies go back 3-7 years.

How long your infractions stay on your record depends on where you live. Laws vary from province to province. Some infractions stay on your record for a few years and some stay on forever.

Does anyone know which insurance companies do not using residential location in calculating car insurance?

I guess I have heard a few months ago that some car insurance companies will not include the location of where the car would be parked in their calculation of car insurance. The media touted that it will cost less to car owners who live in high traffic

In California, the rates are tightly regulated by the Insurance Department, and they are partially based on location. The companies don't have control over it.

I know a lot goes into calculating car insurance, not asking about that. Just want to know if you pay a really small amount for coverage, what that amount is and where you get it from. (Must cover cars in the U.S, though companies can be anywhere).
