Do South Carolina auto insurance laws require me to carry my own liability insurance when driving a rental car?

I don't currently own a car and so haven't had a need to carry my own liability auto insurance in quite awhile. Is it legal for me to drive a rental car or even a car owned by my sister who does have insurance in South Carolina? Will I have to purchase

in south carolina, if u get into a wreck with someone elses car their insurance doesnt cover it because they werent driving it.

If you borrow someone else's car, their liability insurance should cover you.

If you rent a car, you will have to purchase insurance from the rental company when you pay for the car.

Also, which state will be the first to repeal its mandatory auto insurance law? I say Montana

I think the mandatory auto insurance laws should be more thoroughly enforced. It's horrible to think what kind of damage people can cause without having to pay a price!

mandatory means ins company's can charge outrageous amounts. other than that I see no reason to change. I do think when a state mandates, it should also regulate.

California and Wisconsin have activity to repeal their laws.

None that I've heard of. You must be the 1st person to bring this up.
