AARP Driver Safety Classes

18.05.12

The AARP Driver Safety Program is a classroom refresher/defensive driving course open to all drivers age 50 and older. There are no tests, and membership in the AARP is not required. Cost is $14 per person ($12 for AARP members) paid in advance when registering for any class. Make checks payable to AARP. AARP members must have their membership number at class time.

First-time participants must take the eight-hour course, which is given in a two-day period in two four-hour sessions. People taking the four-hour class must furnish evidence of taking the eight-hour class within the past 36 months.

People who complete the course will receive a certificate, valid for three years. All automobile insurance companies doing business in Pennsylvania are required by state law to give an additional discount of at least 5 percent to all qualified policyholders who take this course. Check with your insurance agent to make sure you qualify.
