I looked thru a lot of resolved answers on here from people asking how to get cheaper insurance. Almost always, several people will recommend websites that "supposedly" give ONLINE quotes from different companies, but many of these seem "shady".

Those should be "soft" hits (not applications for new credit) and won't affect your credit score very much. Most insurance companies do factor in credit history when determining rates.

i saw that insurance companies ask for some personal information when it comes to giving an online quote, so i'm trying not to give it to all of the weird companies that come up in a general search, and i was also interested to know if its worth the effort
