Governor accepts $100000 donation

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - While the economy continues to struggle, lobbyists are shelling out big bucks and setting records in Florida.

Year end reports show lobbyists spent $127 million in 2011 trying to influence the Florida legislature. The biggest spender was AT&T, which doled out nearly $1.7 million, followed by casino companies trying to build gaming resorts in South Florida. They spent nearly $1.2 million.

During our last session, a lot of businesses received tax breaks while the everyday consumer only received a few breaks. But a donation Governor Rick Scott received for $100,000 is raising some eyebrows.

You may remember the governor toured the Sunshine State, and even stopped by 10 News studios one Saturday in February to talk about overhauling Personal Injury Protection laws.

The Miami Herald  reports that United Group Underwriters, an affiliate of United Automobile Insurance Company, donated money to Governor Scott's "Let's Get to Work" political committee during the session.
