What does a gear ratio mean?

I want to get one of the new 2011 mustangs (in a couple years, when I'll be able to possibly afford a used one) and I'm wondering what they mean when you can upgrade to a 3.73 rear axle ratio or something like that? Could someone please explain?

The axle ratio is simply the number if times that the drive shaft will rotate for one rotation of the wheels.

You have to know how that matches to the Engine & Transmission choice to understand if any given number is useful for what

Couple of motor questions and something else?

I was just here looking up some info on a Mercury Marauder because I like big body cars, and I get descriptions that it's telling me but I have no idea what they mean.
Now I know what most of this means, but can someone explain this is some kind

first off, the cc size and the liters are how large the cylinders are, all together. It's basically the area of the cylinders. More is always better. The V8 is one you should already know, it has 8 cylinder total, 4 on each side. And for the compression
