'American Idol': No 'Sweet Day' for Shannon Magrane
After Jermaine Jones' disqualification Wednesday night (March 14), there was added pressure for the remaining "American Idol" contestants both that night and Thursday (March 15) to make it past the fan vote. Hearing Ryan Seacrest say the word 'safe' meant a spot on the nationwide "Idol" tour that takes place after the show.
So, of course, you can imagine the heightened happiness of many when they received the news.
All told, it was 16-year-old Shannon Magrane who got the disappointing distinction of finishing 11th on the show's 11th season.
Shannon, the daughter of former Major League Baseball pitcher Joe Magrane, showed considerable potential in her run on the show, but once she made the finals, her performances began to falter.
She was joined in the bottom three by two of the elder stateswomen of the show, Elise Testone and Erika Van Pelt. Both were considerably upset after performances Wednesday night that should have solidified their place in the top 10 -- particularly Elise, with her raspy rendition of "Let's Stay Together" -- but were equally thrilled when they were revealed to have made the tour.
