No fault coverage of automobile insurance in California?

What is no-fault coverage? When you get in an accident, how it works? I don't know and understand the term.
So, for person without no fault coverage, the only option for him/her is to claim or sue other driver in order to get compensation for damages?
NO fault, is where you collect under your own policy, regardless of who was at fault for the accident.
California is NOT a "no fault" state. So "no fault" isn't going to apply to you.

no fault means that your own insurance pays the hospital bills if you get hurt even if the other driver is at fault up to the limit of your policy. that way you don't have to sue for hospital bills unless it goes over your limit. and yes, the insurance

Something doesn't sound right with that. If it were your insurance providing the rental car then it would be limited based on your policy but this should not be subject to the limits in your policy.
I have not heard of this happening before.

No, what they told you is correct. What they are doing is allowing the allowance you have on your policy for the rental car, which apparently is less than the charge. So, you pay the difference, submit the bill for that and as they said, they will collect
