They are independent, locally owned businesses that are under contract by numerous insurance companies to offer their products. He said this allows independents to offer a choice of companies, customization of policies and advocacy on behalf of insureds if there is a claim, usually at a price comparable to the other distribution channels.

The Business Weekly’s Independent Insurance Agencies list in the March 16 print edition highlights 20 of these local agencies.

The agencies are listed by the number of licensed New Mexico agents. The agency topping the list has 75 agents. The list also includes the number of people each agency employs and its lines of coverage, specialty areas and services.
